REPORTS TO: Designated Administrator/Supervisor
Competencies and Performance Standards will be used for teacher evaluation in conjunction with measures of student growth. Measures of student growth will be aligned with Louisiana Law and BESE Policy.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The classroom teacher shall be responsible for the effective management of the class (es) to which he/she is assigned. The teacher shall implement an educational program responsive to student needs according to state and local policy, including the Louisiana Components of Effective Teaching. To plan and implement a program which creates an environment where students can learn and develop optimally. The Special Education teacher is to plan and implement an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for each Special Education student.

Other Responsibilities
- Conducts initial and/or review IEP conferences as appropriate
- Completes and maintains in timely manner all required records, such as: monthly class rolls, IEP forms, confidential records, requisitions, progress reports, etc.
- Completes re-evaluation forms in timely manner according to Pupil Appraisal requirements

WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS WORKED:
- Must work in a variety of settings, dependent upon the students’ programs needs
- Primary work area work will be in the home-based school and classroom and in the outside areas as assigned
- Other work environments required may be in or outside the community
- Hours worked will be determined by the Supervisor on the basis of students needs
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Must be able to communicate in Standard English both orally and in writing. Communication must be commensurate with age and skill of listener
- Must be able to accurately compile and access data via a variety of means, summarize information, and provide written reports
- Must be able to communicate successfully with students, parents, school personnel, and the community
EQUIPMENT USED:
- Must be able to use copy machine, classroom computers, audio visual equipment, classroom computer, laminator, and other appropriate machines
PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT:
- Standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting 10 pounds is sometimes required
- Must be able to operate classroom equipment
MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:
- Must be able to plan and implement appropriate educational programs for all students
- Must be able to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions
- Must keep accurate, up-to-date written records
- Must be able to comply with state and parish regulations
- Must be able to utilize effective classroom management techniques
HUMAN RELATIONS INVOLVEMENT:
- Must be able to work cooperatively with students, parents, school personnel, and the community
- Must be able to respond appropriately to supervision and accept commendations and recommendations
- Must demonstrate sensitivity/understanding and interpersonal relations with persons of diverse culture/backgrounds
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Meet requirements as outlined in Louisiana Bulletin 746: Louisiana Standards of State Certification of School Personnel
