POSITION DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: School Psychologist, Pupil Appraisal Services
REPORTS TO: Designated Administrator/Supervisor
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides direct services to local schools, such as consultation concerning intervention and prevention strategies, referrals and follow-up; assessments and in-service.
- Collects and compiles data as needed for the department, district, state, and federal reports, and assists school staff in implementation of consistent and appropriate behavioral and academic modifications and crisis intervention.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Serves as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and provides psychological and psycho-educational assessments for the identification of children’s/student’s needs and provides written reports within the required timelines
- Provides information and referral services for the child/student and family to other community resources
- Works directly with the child/student and family, utilizing accepted diagnostic methods
- Utilizes and models effective classroom management techniques
- Establishes and maintains contact with school personnel for the purpose of discussing and implementing techniques of working with children/students and their families
- Confers with parents, teachers, principals, Pupil Appraisal Staff, and other system professional staff whenever necessary on matters relative to assessment, educational, and behavioral interventions, exceptional children, learning/teaching strategies, and other areas within the expertise of the School Psychologist
- Maintains case records, reports, and all necessary forms in order to provide for continuity of services and program accountability
- Follows established guidelines of the program in which the school psychologist is employed
- Organizes and conducts in-service training with school personnel and parents
- Explains and interprets the assessment process to parents, teachers, principals, and other school system personnel
- Appropriately selects, administers, scores, and interprets assessment instruments and provides, within specified timelines, reports of results obtained
- Participates in interpreting test results and in planning appropriate programs for individual children/students
- Provides preventative, related, and support services to children/students as appropriate
- Consults with teachers, parents, and appropriate persons regarding the significance of assessment data to the learning and/or behavioral process
- Functions as evaluation coordinator for designated referred students insuring
Compliance with Bulletin 1508 guidelines and local policies and procedures
- Participates in special education eligibility determinations and IEP staffing, when appropriate
- Maintains accurate case records on all children/students regarding enrollment in SBLC process including initial screening and individual evaluations, and other services provided by the School Psychologist in accordance with the requirements of local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and/or policies
- Attends required staff and professional meetings and other staff development requirements
- Facilitates communication between the home and the school, seeking to involve families in the educational process of their children and providing feedback to the school on family situations and problems
- Keeps abreast of new developments in the area of School Psychology and keeps other appropriate school personnel informed of the same
- Completes and maintains a required tracking system which will reflect the provision of services to children/students and personal accountability
- Performs other such duties and assume such other responsibilities as assigned by the Director
WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS WORKED:
- Required to work in a variety of school and community settings
- Must be willing to adjust work strategies to accommodate necessary conditions
- Workday shall be comparable to that of classroom teachers with one-half hour for lunch
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Must be able to effectively communicate in Standard English both orally and in writing. Communication must be commensurate with age and skill of listener.
- Must be able to accurately compile, access and interpret data via a variety of means, summarize information, and prepare compliant, understandable written reports according to timeline requirements
- Must possess ability to prepare and present in-service training
- Must have the ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication system
- Must be able to communicate successfully and pleasantly with children, parents, staff, school personnel, and outside agencies
.EQUIPMENT USED:
- Must be able to use copy machine, classroom computers, audio visual equipment, classroom computer, laminator, and other appropriate machines
PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT:
- Standing, walking, reaching, bending, sitting and lifting 20 pounds are sometimes required.
- Must be able to provide own transportation to schools, work locations, and meeting sites
- Must possess mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations and move freely within work sites.
- Must be able to provide legible written reports
MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:
- Must understand and interpret written and verbal instructions
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Must have the ability to maintain accurate records, to design and implement educational and behavioral interventions, and to coordinate multidisciplinary evaluation data.
- Must be able to follow local, state, and federal guidelines regarding Pupil Appraisal procedures
HUMAN RELATIONS INVOLVEMENT:
- Must be able to work compatibly in group settings
- Must be able to respond positively to supervision and to accept suggestions for improvement
- Must be able to function as a liaison between the school system, parents, and/or outside agencies
- Must be able to perform adequately under strict time constraints

- Must be able to solicit and give specific constructive feedback
- Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity/understanding in interpersonal relations with persons of diverse cultures/backgrounds
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certification as set forth by the State Department of Education, Bureau of Teacher Certification

- Shall be evaluated in accordance with the Zachary Community School Board Personnel Accountability Plan.
