REPORTS TO: Designated Administrator/Supervisor
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Involves duties that vary in methods, procedures and emphasis depending on the particular program which the aide is employed.
- Assists with the teaching and learning activities being provided for children and other duties as specified in the program.
- Paraprofessionals do not assume complete responsibilities for instruction or classes.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Administrative Paraprofessionals (Clerical)
- Performs
- Routine typing as directed by the school secretary
- Other office and classroom duties as assigned by the school administrator and/or secretary
- Receives visitors and directs the flow of traffic to persons involved
- Distributes supplies and materials to the classroom
- Operates the duplicating equipment
- Checks in students who are late and check out those who must leave
- Answers the telephone
- Classroom or Instructional Paraprofessionals
- Assists
- In the classroom with teaching related activities with the pupils under the direction of the teacher
- With one child, with small groups, or with whole group activities
- Teacher with clerical duties
- Prepares materials for use in the classroom
- Collects and displays pupil’s work
- Shows films and filmstrips
- Performs other related classroom duties as assigned
- Library – Clerical – Classroom Paraprofessional
- Maintains card catalog file in order
- Types
- Book Pockets and cards
- Order Slips for book orders
- Assists
- In returning books to shelves
- With school clerical or classroom duties as assigned
- Visiting Paraprofessionals
- Assists
- In fostering better school attendance
- Parents with effective use of needed community resources and services
- Provide
- Emergency transportation for children and/or parents to Public Health Unit, Mental Health Treatment Care, Clothing Center, shoe store, and other community resources when necessary
- Important information about the home and community to school personnel regarding those factors discovered which effect regular school attendance, poor adjustment or misbehavior
- Check and keep needed records on school attendance
- Make telephone contracts regarding children absent from school
- Help to share or make clear information from the school to parents
- Performs other tasks as assigned by the SCWA and/or principal and related to school attendance
- Miscellaneous Paraprofessionals
- Provides assistance in special areas implied in the title (in the office or with children) under the direction of the appropriate professional.

- Aides in Hearing Impaired Programs
- Language Aides (with Speech Therapists)
- Media Aides
- Health Aides (with School Nurses)
- Instructional Resource Center
- Continuing Education Center/s.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/WORK HOURS:
- Individual is required to work in a setting with a climate-controlled environment subject to School Board energy policy guidelines.
- The length of the workday consists of hours assigned by the superintendent and could vary as the result of day/evening activities or emergencies.
- Job responsibilities may require work on weekends or holidays and attendance at meetings other than the location of the work site.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Must be able to effectively communicate in English both orally and in writing.
- Must be able to accurately compile and interpret data, summarize information, and provide reports to the appropriate administrator/supervisor.
- Must have the ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication system and must be able to communicate successfully with all employees of every level as well as outside agencies

PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT:

Standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending, lifting up to 20 pounds is oftentimes required.

Must be able to travel to various locations and move freely within work sites.

Must have sufficient visual acuity to be able to work with computer monitors, read and interpret hand written documents.
MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:

Must understand and interpret written and verbal instructions.

Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Must have the ability to maintain accurate records.

Must possess sufficient interpersonal skills to function compatibly with others
