English as Second Language Teacher

 

Preferred:  Bachelor’s degree and Louisiana Teaching Certification with English as a Second Language 

 

 

1. Direct Student Support:

· Engage directly with high school students who are English language learners to identify and mitigate barriers that prevent them from accessing English language education. This includes facilitating at least one class period or session for language acquisition and practical language usage.

 

2. District ESL Leadership and Communication:

· Serve as the primary contact for all ESL matters within the district, ensuring effective and timely communication across various levels.

· Communicate crucial deadlines and the importance of actions related to student enrollment, Jcampus coding, and accommodation needs.

 

3. Curriculum and Resource Development:

· Regularly update the ESL Handbook and assist school staff in interpreting and implementing its guidelines effectively.

· Oversee and revise the district’s English Learner (ESL) plan to align with current educational standards and learner needs.

 

4. Data Analysis and Student Progress Tracking:

· Analyze ESL data (ELPT) district-wide to assess the educational trajectory of English language learners and to identify necessary services and interventions.

· Utilize data from the English Language Proficiency Test (ELPT) to pinpoint target groups and disseminate this information to relevant stakeholders.

 

5. Communication Protocols:

· Establish and maintain a regular schedule for updates and communications with the ESL lead contact at each school to ensure consistency and coherence in program implementation.

 

· Develop and standardize operating procedures for communications within the district, particularly for engaging with parents and utilizing district resources for interpretation services (Language Line).
